WOOD STREET
In December of 2021 I ventured to Oakland California and spent a week inside of the city’s largest homeless encampment known as Wood Street. Underneath several highway overpasses a community of over 300 people had turned the space into their own unique neighborhood. Cob homes, abandoned cars, communal kitchens, resource centers, and an endless sea of up cycled materials made up one of the most unique homeless encampments in all of America. After almost a decade of building a community and much resistance from its residents, Wood Street was sadly demolished by the city. Here a just a few of the photos I captured while camping there.
